ABOUT INTEL ARIZONA

As one of Arizona’s largest employers, Intel has a positive economic impact on the state, providing 9,700 jobs to its residents. Forty percent of those employees report volunteering in the community. Intel Arizona employees are also committed to supporting their local communities through financial contributions. The 2010 Arizona United Way employee contribution and Intel Corporate gift program gave a combined total of $7.1 million.

Community involvement

Intel Arizona employees support their local communities by volunteering in local schools, supporting recycling programs, and providing assistance to underserved members of the community. Nearly 4100 employees volunteered 150,000 hours in Arizona communities resulting in over $1M in grants to local non-profits and schools.

Here are some of the programs we’re most proud of:

  • Helping students understand how math and science relate to their world
  • Adopting a local elementary school
  • Sponsoring local and regional science fairs in support of the Arizona State Science and Engineering Fair (AzSEF)
  • Supporting a PC recycling day and other Earth Day activities
  • Providing holiday items for underserved students and seniors
  • Participating in skills-based volunteering activities

Volunteering for students

In 2009, thousands of Intel Arizona employees donated their time to help area schools and educational programs.

Elementary and middle school programs supported by Intel Arizona

  • Intel Computer Clubhouse – A safe environment where underserved students can acquire skills necessary for personal and professional success
  • Intel Connected to Schools – A collaboration between Intel and Phoenix area schools with a focus on improving performance
  • National Engineers Week – Intel engineers visit local classrooms to demonstrate science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) concepts

High school programs supported by Intel Arizona

  • Arizona StRUT (Students Recycling Used Technology) – Students learn to refurbish and build computers using donated components
  • Supporting the Arizona Adjunct Teacher Initiative – This initiative brings specially trained Intel employees into classrooms during the day to extend the teachers’ reach and help more students understand the advanced curriculum

Supporting the state science fair

The Arizona Science and Engineering Fair (AzSEF) relies on community members to volunteer as judges, greeters, and general administrative/logistical support for this four-day event.
