The Intel® IQ31244 development kit includes the hardware and software needed to accelerate the development of your intelligent Serial ATA networked storage applications. Serial ATA provides important advantages for networked storage devices, including improved data throughput, storage performance headroom, easier to route thin and round cabling and board real estate savings.

The hardware includes an Intel® IOP321I/O processor with an Intel XScale® core at 600 MHz to deliver high-performance, lowpower consumption with a PCI-X bus interface for high-data throughput. The kit includes four of the Intel® 31244 Serial ATA I/O controller four-port SATA 1.5 Gb/s (150 MB/s) allowing connections to 16 SATA drives. The IQ31244 also includes an Intel® 82546 Dual-Port Gigabit Ethernet Controller, a 64-bit PCI-X expansion slot, and peripheral bus interface (PBI) providing connections to flash ROM, and CompactFlash* and a UART. The Intel® 31154 133 MHz PCI Bridge provides a PCI-X bridge to allow direct peer-to-peer communication between the processor and the four 31244 PCI-X to Serial ATA Controllers on the secondary PCI-X 64-bit bus with frequency of 100 MHz. The Intel® 82546EB Dual-Port Gigabit Ethernet Controller interface has two network ports. The kit features a complete set of software development core-tools (ATI Code|Lab* Development Tools, ARM Developer Suite*, Red Hat GNUPro* Tools,) in addition to firmware and BSP support utilities (ARM AFS*, including Angel*, Red Hat RedBoot*). The kit also includes comprehensive set of documentation.

The IQ31244 development kit accelerates development of intelligent network SATA based storage solutions designed to benefit from the performance of the highly integrated Intel® IOP321 I/O processor based on Intel XScale® microarchitecture. The IQ31244 kit is a comprehensive board solution that includes the Intel® 82544 Gbit Ethernet controller that supports development of Intelligent Ethernet offload and NAS applications. The kit also enables fast time-to-market development of applications including RAID, network attached storage, and storage area network.
The Intel® IQ31244 kit utilizes the ATI Code|Lab development tools, a single interface to the Red Hat gcc and ARM compiler technologies using a robust Integrated Development Environment. The kit also includes Macraigor Systems Raven* JTAG support; an evaluation version of the complete ARM Development Suite; as well as the Red Hat GNUPro open-source tools. The JTAG header provides a quick and easy connection to key Intel® IOP321 JTAG and debug logic signals.
Operating systems that have been ported to the 80321 I/O Processor include: Accelerated Technology / Mentor Graphics, Nucleus* OS, Embedded Linux OS, NetBSD* OS.

The Intel IQ31244 platform contains one secondary PCI-X bus expansion connector to provide access to standard PCI-X I/O adapters.
