The Intel 82558 is the first fully integrated combination 32-bit PCI bus LAN controller and physical layer interface for 10/100Mbps Fast Ethernet networks. This breakthrough silicon integrates Intel's 82557 MAC and 82555 PHY designs with advanced manageability features for high performance and excellent reliability. The 82558's baseline functionality is equivalent to the sum of the 82555 and 82557. It's backwards compatible with 82557 software and is ideal for LAN on motherboard, PCI adapters or embedded designs.
