Intel® Core™ 2 Extreme Processor X6800 Storage Performance
PCMark*05 is part of the popular benchmark series from FutureMark* Corporation. To assess storage performance, PCMark*05 includes a collection of five hard drive tests to record disk activity. These traces can then be used to measure the overall disk performance. The five tests include application loading, file write, general hard disk usage, Windows* XP start up, and virus scanning. The final Hard Disk Drive Score consists of a weighted evaluation across all of these sub tests. The data results show that Intel® Matrix Storage Technology can provide the following key performance benefits:
- Up to 6% better overall storage performance when using a Serial ATA hard drive which supports Native Command Queuing (NCQ)
- Up to 15% better overall storage performance plus protection against a hard drive failure when configured with a two-drive RAID 1 array
- Up to 38% better overall storage performance when configured with a two-drive RAID 0 array, plus the ability to scale to even higher levels of performance with a three or four drive array
- The Windows* XP Startup test is a start trace, which contains disk activities occurring at operating system start-up
- The Application Loading test contains disk activities from loading various applications such as Windows* Media Player and Leadtek* Winfast* DVD
- The File Copying test contains disk activity from copying approximately 400 megabytes of files
- The General Hard Disk Drive Usage test contains disk activity from using several common applications such as compression and decompression using Winzip, and scanning files for viruses using F-Secure* Antivirus*
- The Virus Scan test typical disk activity of scanning 600MB of files

Intel processor numbers are not a measure of performance. Processor numbers differentiate features within each processor family, not across different processor families. See http://www.intel.com/products/processor_number for details.
Performance tests and ratings are measured using specific computer systems and/or components and reflect the approximate performance of Intel products as measured by those tests. Any difference in system hardware or software design or configuration may affect actual performance. Buyers should consult other sources of information to evaluate the performance of systems or components they are considering purchasing.
