| Intel has released a PHY Interface (the part of a silicon chip that lets the chipset and add-in cards communicate) for the latest revision of the PCI Express Architecture (PIPE) specification. The spec supports the future PCI Express (PCIe) 3.0 interconnect architecture and is expected to accelerate the development of PCIe devices such as graphics, storage and communications adapters. It also extends the existing PCIe 2.0 PIPE specification and is backwards compatible with previous generations. The spec is available here. Intel and Yahoo! previewed plans for the Widget Channel - an application framework for TV and related consumer electronics (CE) devices that use the Intel Architecture. Building on the related announcement of the Intel Media Processor CE 3100, the Widget Channel will enable TV watchers to interact with and enjoy a rich set of "TV Widgets," or small Internet applications designed to complement and enhance the traditional TV watching experience. | Anand Chandrasekher demonstrated a series of Atom based MIDs during his keynote from more than 15 different companies. He welcomed executives from Clarion, Panasonic and Fujitsu who announced that their Intel Atom processor-based devices are coming soon to the U.S. market. Clarion's MiND, which stands for Mobile Internet Navigation Device, is targeted as the next-generation navigation device with real-time, location-based services and full Internet-based experiences. Panasonic's Toughbook CF-U1 is the industry's first Atom processor-based and ruggedized UMPC, and Panasonic's Mobile Clinical Assistant (MCA), based on the Intel MCA platform, is designed for health care professionals. | Intel today announced the availabilty of its draft Extensible Host Controller Interface (xHCI) specification. This is a 'Dummies Guide' to building silicon chips that support the new USB 3.0 standard (also known as SuperSpeed USB). Intel is making this specification available royalty free. The industry is keen to adopt a single standard in order to ensure great interoperability between USB 3.0 devices. AMD, Dell, Microsoft, NEC and Nvidia Corporation are supporting the new spec. |
