TV-out and ADD2 card support

Overview

An ADD2 card is an adapter card that can be inserted into the PCI Express* port of Intel® G35 Express Chipset, Intel® G33 Express Chipset, Intel® G31 Express Chipset, Intel® G965 Express Chipset, Intel® Q965 Express Chipset, Intel® Q963 Express Chipset, Intel® 946GZ Express Chipset, Intel® 915G Express Chipset or Intel® 945G Express Chipset based systems. ADD2 cards utilize the PCI Express x16 port to receive SDVO signals from the GMCH. ADD2 cards allow configurations for TV-out, LVDS, and TMDS output (i.e. televisions and digital displays/flat panels). Combined with an Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator Driver, ADD2 cards can be used to display system output to a television, digital display, or simultaneously to a monitor and digital display.

Compatibility

ADD2 cards provide display output options that expand the range of display devices a system could support. Here are some examples of SDVO Devices for use on ADD2 cards (available through third parties)

  • Combo Devices:
    • Dual Link DVI: dual independent DVI displays
    • TV-Out (Composite): primary or secondary TV-out display (standard definition in PAL or NTSC formats)
    • HDTV-Out: primary or secondary HDTV display
    • VGA-Out: drive second RGB independent display

  • DVI: primary or secondary DVI display

  • LVDS: LVDS interface for integrated flat panel

Note: ADD2 cards are compatible only with systems containing the Intel G35, G33, G31, G965, Q965, Q963, 946GZ, 915G or 945G Express Chipset and a PCI Express slot. ADD2 cards cannot be inserted into AGP compliant systems (e.g. Intel® 845G and 865G chipset families).

Support

Unless purchased with an Intel® Desktop Board, technical support for ADD2 card hardware should be directed to the original manufacturer of the card. If the issue appears to be with the graphics driver software, email support is offered directly by Intel.

Purchasing/Availability

End users with systems based on the Intel G35, G33, G31, G965, Q965, Q963, 946GZ, 915G or 945G Express Chipset should contact their system manufacturer or local computer reseller for availability of individual ADD2 cards. Intel is working with three ADD2 card vendors (Silicon Image*, Molex*, and Prolink*) to qualify their cards on the RML (Recommended Materials List). The only SKU available in 2004 is a single port DVI configuration.
