Intel® Precision Cooling automatically adjusts the chassis fan speeds depending on the system's temperature. This feature reduces system fan noise by lowering the speed of the chassis fans connected to the front and rear chassis fan connectors. The processor fan connector is not controlled.
The fan speed control feature can be disabled in the BIOS, resulting in the chassis fans always operating at full speed. This feature should be disabled if a self-controlled fan is attached to a chassis fan connector.
To set the fan control settings:
- Enter the BIOS Setup Utility by pressing F2 during boot up
- Go to the Advanced menu and choose Fan Control Configuration
- Highlight Fan Control, and press Enter to Enable or Disable
- When Fan Control is enabled, highlight Lowest Fan Speed and press Enter to set to Off or Slow
When the Lowest Fan Speed is set to Off, the chassis fans will stop running completely at low system temperatures. When set to Slow, the chassis fans will continue to run at a slow speed during low system temperatures.
Overall system noise reduction will vary based on the system configuration and environment.
