Latest BIOS and drivers
Refer to the current drivers and BIOS version for the Intel® SE440BX Motherboard.

Intel SE440BX Motherboard or Intel® SE440BX-2 Motherboard
To determine which motherboard you have, refer to the Altered Assembly (AA) number or the BIOS version string.

Configuring PCI audio drivers
See the instructions for installing the Crystal PCI audio drivers in Windows* 95 or installing the drivers in Windows* 98.

Processors supported
The Intel SE440BX Motherboard supports the 450 MHz Pentium® III processor and Pentium II processors that run internally at 233 MHz, 266 MHz, 300 MHz, 333 MHz, 350 MHz, 400 MHz, and 450 MHz. Also see the additional information processors supported.

Processor considerations
The Pentium II processor connects to the motherboard through the 242-pin slot 1 edge connector and is secured using a Single Retention Mechanism (RM). Several steps must be observed when installing the retention mechanism to ensure it and the processor stay securely attached to the board.

An active (fan) processor heatsink is recommended, because cooling requirements vary depending on the system configuration. It is the responsibility of the system designer or integrator to ensure that the processor's maximum case temperature (at the thermal plate) is not exceeded. Details on thermal considerations can be found in the Intel SE440BX Motherboard Technical Product Specification.

Will my ATA-66 hard drive work on the Intel SE440BX Motherboard?
The IDE controller integrated into the Intel SE440BX Motherboard supports Ultra DMA modes 0,1 and 2. Ultra DMA mode 2, also known as ATA-33 or Ultra DMA 33, is the highest speed transfer mode supported by the Intel SE440BX Motherboard. The motherboard hardware cannot support the maximum transfer rate of the ATA-66 drives. A drive that complies with the ATA-66 specification will run timings up to Ultra ATA-33 on the Intel SE440BX Motherboard. Please refer to the Technical Product Specification and the Motherboard Specification Update for more complete details on the various transfer modes.
