Redundant Power
A pedestal system must have three power supplies installed to support redundant power; the third power supply is redundant. A rack system must have 2 or 3 power supplies installed to support redundant power.
Redundant Cooling
The
Intel®
AP450GX Server Platforms come standard with redundant fans. Any one of the system fans can fail and the system cooling capacity is still adequate. The fans are not hot-swappable.
Fast-20 Drives
The Adaptec* 7880 chip set supports Fast-20 mode drives with maximum transfer rates of 40 MB/sec. The Adaptec SCSI Select utility can aid in configuration. Narrow SCSI devices are not supported when in Fast-20 mode.
Hot-swap Hard Drives
A drive carrier can accommodate hot-swap hard drives that are 3.5" wide and up to 1.6" high. Carriers are included with every system. The system supports SCSI-2 hot-swap hard drives. The mating connector is a standard 80 pin SCA connector.
Narrow SCSI Drives
Narrow SCSI drives are supported (in fast/wide mode only) but not recommended in the 5-1/4" peripheral bay due to EMI considerations. Active bus termination is required on the last device.
RAID Capabilities
AP450GX systems can be made RAID capable by adding a RAID controller from the list of qualified controllers. You can set the jumpers on the SCSI backplane to change the SCSI IDs if all the hard drives are not "seen" by the controller. Some firmware may require specific device IDs.
Operating Systems Supported by the Server Management Software
Server Management features are only supported under Windows NT* and Novell NetWare*.
ECC Memory Support
Memory ECC is supported via ECC logic in the chip set while using standard parity SIMMs or DIMMs. The chip set will detect double bit errors and correct single bit errors.
