System Memory Add-in Modules
The Intel AP450GX/AR450GX Server Platform supports two memory solutions via add-in modules.

The SIMM module that ships with the system supports a maximum of 2 GB using 128 MB SIMMs in each of the 16 sockets. The number of SIMMs supported must be 4, 8 or 16. All SIMMs in a bank must be identical in size and speed. SIMM sizes (but not speeds) may differ between banks. SIMMs supported are 36-bit, 72-pin, 60 or 70 ns JEDEC-compatible Fast Page Mode devices, which can be single- or double-sided (referring to the addressing method, not the physical layout). The following interleaving options are supported: Two-way (J1-J4), Four-way (J1-J8), and Four-way (dual bank, J1-J16).

The optional DIMM module supports up to 4 GB of memory using 128 MB DIMMs in each of the 32 DIMM sockets. The memory is organized in four banks of four DIMMs each, which allow for capacities of 0.5 GB through 4 GB in 0.5 GB increments. Interleaving is four-way.

EDO memory is not supported.

Identifying Hot-swap Capabilities
Identifying whether your AP450GX has hot-swap capability can be done in one of two ways. If the system is still in the box, look for the Top Assembly (TA) number. Hot-swap capability is present on TAs whose dash numbers end in 3 (as in -xx3). If the system is out of the box, look for a serial number equal to or higher than these:

• A non-redundant, not hot-swappable configuration uses two power supplies. Both supplies are 420W or 420WHS.
• A redundant, but not hot-swappable configuration uses three power supplies, all 420W.
• The redundant and hot-swappable configuration uses three power supplies, all 420WHS, with one of the systems that has hot-swap capability, as noted above.
