The Intel® Server Chassis SC5100 chassis supports two half-height or one full height 5.25-inch removable media peripheral device (i.e., Magnetic/Optical disk, CD-ROM, or tape drive). These peripherals can be up to 9-inches deep and placed in the upper drive bays (Figure 1, Item A). Note that only two of the three locations can be populated in the 100 chassis. The third location and the one-inch vented panel (Figure 1, Item B) must be unpopulated and the vented panels should be retained as an air inlet for processor and memory cooling. Without this air inlet the processors may overheat. As a guideline, the maximum recommended power per device is 17W. Thermal performance of specific devices must be verified to ensure compliance to the manufacturer's specifications.
