The Intel® RAID Controller RS2PI08DE product provides a local key and management for Self-Encrypting Drives. The data encryption feature of the controller provides the ability to encrypt data and controller-based key management for the data security solution. This solution provides protection to the data in the event of theft or loss of drives.
Self-Encrypting Drives (SED) provide security capabilities which may be used in two ways: to provide instant secure erase (cryptographic erase or making the data no longer readable), and to enable auto-locking to secure active data if a drive is misplaced or stolen from a system while in use.
With drive encryption, the encryption capabilities of Self-Encrypting Drives are the primary level of security, but management of the self encrypting drives is critical to its execution.
Intel® RAID Controller RS2PI008DE key management maintains and controls the key linkage and communications with the self-encrypting drives.
