With the Intel® Server Board S5000VCL two x4 PCI Express* lanes are provided from the Enterprise South Bridge (ESB-2E) component to the Super Slot riser.
The S5000VCL server board provides a PCI Express Select Jumper to set the PCI Express speed to the riser assembly. The jumper block is located at location J1E1.
With the default provided PCI-E/PCI-X riser (AHJPCIRISER) for the Intel® Server Systems SR1530CL, SR1530HCL and SR1530HCLS the PCI Express connector on the riser is capable of up to x8 adapter use.
The default setting of one x8 which combines the two x4 lanes is correct and appropriate for the default PCI-E/PCI-X riser. With a x8 PCI-E lane you can use any PCI-E (x1, x4 or x8) adapter without issues.
With the PCI-E/PCI-E riser the two PCI-E lanes must be split to each connector, hence the necessity to move the PCI Express Select Jumper to two x4 lanes (one for each PCI-E connector on the riser).
The jumper block located at J1E1 is used to select which PCI Express speed to use. Pin 1 on the jumper is identified by . This jumper will need to be moved to support the PCI Express speed required by the riser and adapters used.
Information on PCI-e Select Jumper can be found in the Intel(R) Server Board S5000VCL Technical Product Specification (TPS) in section 6.3.
