Software Clustering Guide [PDF]

This document described storage failover clustering as implemented in Windows* 2000 or later.  For the purposes of this document, a cluster is a grouping of two independent servers that can access the same shared data storage and provide services to a common set of clients (as verified by a domain controller). Logically, a cluster is a single management unit. Any server can provide any available service to any authorized client. The servers must have access to the same shared data and must share a common security model.  This generally means that the servers in a cluster have the same architecture and run the same version of the operating system. Please refer to the clustering guide for more details.
