Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) is the logical evolution of the SCSI interface and will satisfy the growing need for enterprise data requirements of scalability and high performance reliability while retaining the manageability SCSI has been known for. SAS will do so while at the same time leveraging a common connection, both electrical and physical, with Serial ATA (SATA). The evolution to SAS will meet the needs of enterprise class systems which require a robust solution and retention of legacy SCSI software and a choice of direct-attach storage devices using either SCSI or SATA interfaces.
