Intel® Entry Storage System SS4200-E
What can't I change or delete the data on a device connected to the system?

If you connect a USB or eSATA drive running NTFS to the Intel® Entry Storage System SS4200-E, the content of that drive will be read-only.

This is done for security considerations with NTFS devices.

The attached NTFS device permissions cannot be changed to read-write within the Storage Manager.

As a workaround, the drive must be reformatted to FAT32. There are third-party applications that can be used to accomplish this. Note that reformatting the device will delete all data.

After the reformat, reinstall the drive(s). Note that they will still be mounted READ ONLY. Go into User Accounts for the current user base, likely only Admin, and you can set permissions on that drive to Read/Write from Read Only. Be sure to Apply the setting, get the confirmation message, and verify it.

This applies to:
Intel® Entry Storage System SS4200-E
