Intel® Audio Players
Getting the Most Music onto Your Audio Player

The amount of memory space a song uses depends upon the bitrate you record your music files at. The higher the bitrate, the better the sound quality, but more memory space is required. For a guideline on audio bitrates, see below:

  • CD Quality = 128kbps or greater
  • Near CD Quality = 96kbps
  • FM Radio Quality = 64kbps
The Intel® Pocket Concert™ Audio Player will hold up to about 4 hours of music if you create your files using the FM Radio Quality setting (64kbps). The Intel® Personal Audio Player 3000 will hold up to about 2 hours of music at this setting.

Audio quality can be set in the software you use to create your music files.

If you use MusicMatch Jukebox*:
  1. Click Options » Recorder » Settings.

  2. Select the recording quality you want and click OK.
If you use Windows Media Player*:
  1. Click Tools » Options.

  2. Go to the CD Audio tab.

  3. Adjust the slider bar for Copying Settings to the bitrate setting you want and click OK.
If you use other software to create your audio files, refer to its documentation for adjusting the bitrate setting.

Alternatively, you can transfer your existing higher bitrate audio files to the audio player while "transcoding" it on the fly. Transcoding will adjust the bitrate of the song to a lower setting before transferring the song to the player. It does not change the original song on your computer's hard drive.

To transcode with MusicMatch Jukebox:
  1. Copy the audio files you want to the Playlist area of the MusicMatch Jukebox player.

  2. Click Options » Send to Device » Download Playlist to <name of your audio player>.

  3. Select the tracks you want to transfer.

  4. Choose the bitrate you want from the Bitrate Limit drop down box in the upper left corner.

  5. Click the Download to Player button.

All songs you transfer will now be transcoded to the new bitrate. Transcoding will increase the time required for the transfer process.
To transcode with Windows Media Player:
  1. Click Tools » Options.

  2. Go to the Portable Device" tab.

  3. Choose the Select Quality Level radio button.

  4. Adjust the slider bar to the bitrate setting you want and click OK.
All songs you transfer will now be transcoded to the new bitrate. Transcoding will increase the time required for the transfer process.
