Q: Can I set a password on my Xircom® REX 6000? A: Yes. There are two ways to set a password. From the Controls area, you set your own PIN number. You can then use this as a password to lock the entire device, which must be entered every time the REX is turned on. You can also just lock individual memos that you want to keep private with a password.
Q: Can I share data between my PC and my REX 6000? A: Yes. Your REX 6000 can synchronize with your PC in two ways:
- You can synchronize using the USB or serial cradle connected to a USB or serial port on your desktop or laptop computer.
- You can place the REX 6000 directly into the PC Card slot of a laptop computer.
Q: Can I transfer my information from my REX 3 or REX 5000, to my REX 6000? A: Yes. But currently it must be done like this. Use TrueSync* to synchronize your information from your REX 3 or REX 5000 to Outlook* 97, Outlook* 98 or Outlook* 2000. Then, use Intellisync* (comes with the REX 6000) to synchronize the information in Outlook to your REX 6000.
Q: Can I upgrade my REX 3 or REX 5000 to a REX 6000? A: The architecture of the REX 6000 is different than previous REX products. The REX 3 and REX 5000 are not upgradeable to a REX 6000 due to hardware limitations.
Q: Does my REX 6000 work with Unix* or Linux*? A: There are no plans to support Unix* or Linux* currently or in the future.
Q: Does my REX 6000 work with Windows 95, Windows NT 4.0 or the MAC OS? A: Support for these operating systems is currently under investigation. However, the REX 6000 is currently supported under Windows 98, 98 SE, 2000 and Me.
Q: Has Intel stopped selling REX and discontinued REX.net? A: Intel is no longer shipping REX products into the distribution channel and the REX.net service has been discontinued.
Q: How do I enter my information into my REX 6000? A:There are two methods you can use:
- You can transfer existing information from a laptop or desktop PC (also called synchronizing).
- You can also input information directly into the REX 6000 using its touch screen and on-screen keyboard.
Q: How do I erase the information in the web viewer? A: Utilize the REX Tools utility that is included in the desktop software to clear out its memory. (Erased PIM data will be restored on the next synchronization to Outlook).
Q: How do I transfer information onto my REX 6000? A: If you own a laptop computer, you can plug the REX directly into the Type II PC Card slot. You can also place the REX into the cradle, which connects to any desktop or laptop PC.
Note: The REX 6000 can use either the REX USB Cradle for the REX Serial Cradle. Whether you use the PC Card method or the cradle method, launch the Intellisync* software on your PC and within seconds all of your data is transferred to your REX. The data transfer process (also called synchronization) is easy therefore you can do it one or more times daily to ensure that you always have the latest information with you.
Q: How do you synchronize Calendar data in a Public Folder stored on a Microsoft* Exchange Server 5.0? A: When setting up a new User, make sure that Outlook is open and you are connected to the Exchange Server. When prompted, check the applicable Outlook folder groups (i.e. Personal Folders, Public Folders, Mailbox, etc.).
Q: How much information can my REX 6000 hold? A: Your REX 6000 can simultaneously hold:
- Up to 2,500 contacts
- 1,000 appointments
- 100 tasks
- 50 memos
The number of possible entries may be even higher based on the complexity of your entries.

Q: Why are Calls not synchronizing with Outlook? A: Microsoft has not included any specific Call support for tasks in Outlook. Users can make them behave similarly; however, there is no clean way for TrueSync* to detect them. Until Microsoft adds Call support into the Outlook API, calls will not be supported. Currently, only ACT!*, Sidekick* and the REX device support this feature.
Q: Why is REX a MicroPDA? A: REX is the smallest, lightest full-function PDA available. It has all the essential features that you'll use most - calendar, contacts, tasks, and memos - in a device so small it can stay with you all the time.
