Test Results Summary
Systems that pass all four tests are enabled for Intel® Viiv™ technology. For more information on Intel Viiv technology, visit the digital entertainment site.
If the Intel® Viiv™ Technology Test Utility has returned a non-passing result for the tested system, this area will provide guidance in understanding the results and steps to resolve potential system issues.
Next Steps for Non-Passing Results
- Confirm that the tested system is branded
- Confirm that the most recent version of the test utility is installed
- Confirm that the Intel Viiv technology software is up-to-date
- Understand the test results
- Gather test results information
- Determine whether to contact the vendor or system manufacturer
1. Confirm that the tested system has the Intel® Viiv™ technology brand
|
The Intel Viiv Technology Test Utility is designed to test for requirements of branded Intel Viiv technology systems. If the system has the logo-label sticker that signifies Intel Viiv technology, the system should pass all tests.
? See the logo-label sticker example
| If a logo sticker is not present on the tested system, it is likely the system was not enabled for Intel Viiv technology. If the system was purchased with the understanding that Intel Viiv technology was included, contact the vendor or system manufacturer to resolve the issue (step 5).
2. Confirm that the most recent version of the test utility is used
It is important to test a system using the most current version of the Intel Viiv Technology Test Utility. The utility is updated regularly to include new products that also support Intel Viiv technology. Testing new components with an old version of the utility may return a non-pass condition.
3. Confirm that the Intel Viiv technology software is up-to-date
It is also important to verify an Intel Viiv technology based system is using the latest Intel Viiv technology software. The Intel Viiv Software Update Tool keeps your Intel Viiv software up-to-date. This software detects which updates are relevant to your computer, then helps you install them quickly and easily.
4. Understand the test results
The utility tests each of the core components of Intel Viiv technology: processor, chipset, LAN and an additional test combining several other components. As the tests are complete for each of the four components, the utility will display the results of those tests on the "Results" screen.
To indicate the component passed the test, the utility will display a green checkmark:

To indicate the component failed the test, the utility will display a yellow triangle:

For any of the components, a failure means that one of three conditions was determined by the utility:
- The required component was not found on the system.
- The required component was found, but is not enabled.
- The required component was found, and is enabled, but is not functional.
While the utility can assign a pass/fail to each of the three core components for Intel Viiv technology, it is not capable of diagnosing the specific reasons for test failures. The vendor or manufacturer will be able to use more comprehensive tests and diagnostics.
5. Gather the test results information
The Intel Viiv Technology Test Utility provides a report capability that can be used to discuss non-passing results with the vendor or system manufacturer. The report contains a summary of the results, utility version information and test date. It also contains a "validation key" to certify the results on the report.
NOTE: The results report is available only when at least one core component test has a non-pass condition.
Clicking the "Display Results" button provided on the results screen of the utility will open the report as a text file for viewing. The file can be saved to disk for future reference. In addition to the Results Report, the vendor or system manufacturer may also require warranty and registration information, and possibly the purchase invoice or purchase documentation:

6. Determine whether to contact the vendor or system manufacturer
Resolution for non-pass conditions should be sought from the entity that holds warranty responsibility for the tested system. In some instances, this will be the vendor, or place of purchase. It is possible that the place of purchase may point customers to the system manufacturer for resolving system issues. The place of purchase is often times the best first step for resolution, and may even be required prior to contacting the system manufacturer directly.
The "Learn More" button in the utility will appear if one or more components fails the brand verification tests. Clicking the Learn More button provided on the results screen will open a website dedicated to helping customers understand, and take steps to resolve, issues that might arise with Intel Viiv technology.
Review the purchase documentation for warranty instructions and contact information.
What to Expect for Issue Resolution
The vendor or system manufacturer will have the resources to diagnose the non-pass condition(s), and resolve any issues identified. Depending upon the outcome of their diagnostics, they may be able to resolve the issue remotely. Because Intel Viiv technology is hardware dependent (processor, chipset and LAN), the system may require a hardware change to enable Intel Viiv technology.
