Restoring Backed-up Files to a File Server

Restore backed up files to a file server

  1. Run Central Console.

  2. Connect to the StorageExpress™ system.

  3. From the Main Menu, choose Restore.

  4. Choose Restore again from the Restore Menu.

  5. In the Restore Files Backed Up From... window, highlight the name of the server you want to restore files from and then choose Continue.

  6. Central Console will now display a list of volumes backed up from this server. Double-click the volume name to expand. This shows a list of directories and files.

    Choose Date Range to view only those files backed up during a particular time period. Then choose the volumes, directories, and files to be restored. To avoid any possible errors, narrow the date range to within 1 or 2 days of date when the files were originally backed up.

    1. To select an item, highlight the name and choose the X symbol.

    2. To deselect an item, highlight the name and choose the blank symbol.

    3. When finished, choose Continue.

  7. The Restore Status window will show the entries found in the File Tracker database, choose OK.

  8. In the Restore Options and Schedule window, set the start time, date, and other tape drive you will use.

  9. Click the Advanced Options button to set the restore options. Click Save if you want to keep these settings as default for all restores. Select OK when finished.

  10. If you DO NOT want the files to be restored to its original server, choose the Write Restore Files to... button.

  11. From the Write Restore File to... Menu, choose the Write Restore file to fileserver + ORIGINAL Path button.

  12. In the left window, choose the file server to restore to.

  13. In the right window, choose the directory in which to place the restored files. You will be prompted to enter a login and password to the alternate server. Choose Continue.

    Note: When the StorageExpress system restores the files, it will recreate the original backup path under the directory you selected on the alternate server.

  14. This will bring you back to the Restore Options and Schedule... window. Central Console will identify the tapes required to restore the data you selected. When finished, choose OK.

  15. Choose OK again to submit the restore job to the StorageExpress™ system.

  16. When the scheduled time arrives, insert tapes the StorageExpress™ system prompts for.
