Power option recommendations

Note: These recommendations are not dependent on each another. You can set one recommendation or both.

Do not set hibernate timer
If you want to record TV programs1 while Intel® QRTD is enabled, it is recommended not to set the hibernate timer. Hibernation is a state in which your computer shuts down to save power but first saves everything in memory on your hard disk.

If you try to record a TV program while you are not home or sleeping and hibernate is set, the Intel® Viiv™ technology-based PC cannot wake to record the program.

Complete the following steps to disable this option:

  1. Select Start | Control Panel | Power Options.
The Power Options Properties window is displayed.

  2. Select the Hibernate tab.

  3. Uncheck the Enable hibernate support check box.

  4. Click Apply.

Set system standby for a specific amount of time
It is recommended to set the system standby option to a specific amount of time. Standby is a state in which your monitor and hard disks turn off, so that your computer uses less power.

If this option is not set, the system fans remain on until the Intel Viiv technology-based PC is manually turned off through the Shut Down function in Microsoft* Windows* XP Media Center Edition.

Complete the following steps to set this option:

  1. Select Start | Control Panel | Power Options.
The Power Options Properties window is displayed.

  2. Select the Power Schemes tab.

  3. Select an amount of time from the System standby drop-down list.
